Splints

Hand Splints and Bracing

Splints are important in the management of the disease or injury to the elbow, wrist, or hand.

Reasons for splinting or bracing include:

  • to protect injured or repaired structures
  • to prevent deformity
  • to correct deformity
  • to decrease pain
  • to increase mobility
  • to enhance function

 

Common types of splints

  • Leather working splints
  • BiLateral resting splints
  • Gutter splints
  • LMBs
  • Radial & ulnar nerve palsy splints
  • Reverse knuckle bender splints
  • Wrist braces
  • Thumb splints
  • Hand-based splints
  •  

Pacific Handworks uses both custom made and prefabricated splints, braces and supportive wraps.

  • Static splints are used for immobilization, protection of joints, and to decrease inflammation and pain.
  • Dynamic splints are employed to restore tightness to joints and tendons, and to increase range of motion.
